Anthony Flammia
NYPD
Anthony Flammia is a retired NYPD officer who served as a responder during 9/11. As one of the first responders to the World Trade Center, Anthony helped many people evacuate prior to the collapse of the Twin Towers. In the months that followed, Anthony spent more than 200 hours in and around Ground Zero. His work during that time included escorting remains of deceased responders to the morgue and accompanying surviving families to and from Ground Zero to pay respect to their loved ones. Anthony transferred to the Center Island Police Department in Oyster Bay, New York in late 2001.
He was ultimately forced to retire in 2008 due to 9/11-inflicted injuries—including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), reactive airway disease, and chemical bronchitis. His goal with the FealGood Foundation today is to counsel and support other responders.
