Michael Weinstock
Volunteer Firefighter
Michael Weinstock is a former prosecutor and trained volunteer firefighter. On 9/11, Michael saw smoke pouring out of the Twin Towers and waved down a passing ambulance. At Ground Zero, he assisted with rescue efforts and helped treat victims in a makeshift emergency room. He returned to Ground Zero in the following days and joined other firefighters in the “bucket brigade.” As a result of his service, he was diagnosed with neuropathy—severe pain associated with nerve damage—in 2016.
Michael’s volunteer work extends beyond firefighting to reuniting Holocaust survivors with their rescuers. These efforts resulted in a 2020 invitation to the Vatican and an audience with Pope Francis.
