Nancy Collins
NYPD
Nancy Collins is a retired NYPD Officer and first responder who was at Ground Zero from 9/11 until early 2002. She began on the “bucket brigade”, then spent several months at the WTC site—until discovering she was pregnant. Nancy didn’t return to Ground Zero until 18 years later, when her then-17-year-old daughter sang the national anthem at the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.
In late 2023, Nancy was diagnosed with melanoma, and in early 2024, with breast cancer. She is still on her journey to recovery.
